Jewish Kent - Canterbury Jewish Community

Canterbury & District Jewish Community

There is a rich history of Jewish life in Canterbury, and in recent years there was a vibrant independent Jewish community, however with the passage of time this has dwindled away. Nowadays although Jewish life is focused towards the Thanet synagogues, the Canterbury and District Jewish Community do hold two or three social events annually and welcomes new members.

The Jewish cemetery is no longer in use but has been renovated and is now maintained by Canterbury City Council. To visit the cemetery contact Cedric Rebuck. The Old Synagogue has closed; nowadays it is used as the music room for The Kings School but the Jewish Community is allowed to use it.

For more information about any aspect of Jewish life in Canterbury contact Ian on 07798 555391 or by email to canterbury@imsbvs.f9.co.uk or Cedric Rebuck at cedric.rebuck@btinternet.com

There is a strong Jewish Society at the universities with regular events and activities supported by the excellent work of the Chabad of Brighton and Rev Malcolm Weisman .For more information regarding the Chabad, use this link:
